Kiwi Class is CLASS OF THE WEEK!

This week we had assembly outside under the trees. The hall was still full with things for the garage sale. It was actually very nice to be outside to celebrate our week at school, and we all did really well adapting to our new surroundings.

The big news for this week in Kiwi Class was that we were voted class of the week! We were all very proud of our hard work this week and it was nice to share our success with the rest of the school.

This is our personalized award and trophy. We get to keep the trophy in our class for the next week.
Mrs Brattle asks that all the award winners come back to class after assembly so she can take their photo for the blog. This week we ALL needed to come back for our class of the week photo.

Our other award winners were Abigail and Garrett. Abigail received her award for being a Kiwi Class star. She tries hard with everything she does and quietly gets on with her work. Well done Abigail you are a pleasure to have in Kiwi Class.

Garrett received his award for being a great role model. Garrett is helpful and supportive of his class members and is a handy member of our classroom.

What a great week we have had. Our bird research has been so successful that we will be continuing it again next week.

Poor Lotti

Yesterday we discovered that our fish tank filter had fallen down and one of our fish had been hurt. Mrs Brattle explained that Lotti ( the fish ) was very sick. This morning when we arrived at school Lotti had died. We were all a bit sad so we decided to have a funeral for her. We buried Lotti in our class garden. after the burial we used our writing time to write about Lotti.

We all said goodbye to Lotti.

We still managed to have a great day and although we were sad in the morning the afternoon was filled with lots of fun, learning and swimming.

Bird Discovery Week

Last week we were lucky enough to be given a stuffed Kiwi, Penguin and a Weka. A great big thank you to Tora's family for the loan.

We have decided that there are a lot of questions we would like to know the answers to, so as a class we have made a great big list of questions to answer. This week we are going to do our best to find as much information as possible to learn more about our bird visitors.

This morning was a glorious Monday and we were excited to have our final session of kiwi kick. We had a quick recap of the skills that we have practiced so far, then we split into 3 teams and had a game. Mrs Brattle thought we were great and we all had a lot of fun. We have shared our sessions with Paua class which has been most enjoyable.

We designed title pages for our Bird week, listened to some bird calls and started our New Zealand bird word find.

After lunch it was very hot, so we were extra pleased to have an afternoon swim.

After a quick tidy up of Kiwi class we settled down to hear some more of our book "Nanny Piggins". We had a great day today and although we were all a little sleepy from our big weekend at the gala we are all looking forward to what tomorrow brings.

Today for our reading groups we were checking out the Kiwi kids news on line. We found an interesting article about shark week to read. Although it is not shark week at the moment Kiwi class learn't some interesting things about catching sharks for their fins. Click on the shark picture below to check out the article we read.

We had some really good ideas about choices we could make to stop the practice of fishing for sharks.

Sorry these pictures are upside down, but this is an example of the great work that we did. Well done to Devyn and Yasmin your ideas were really great.

We also went outside this morning to check out our solar car. All the classes have one and we wanted to see how our one was going to work. Plateau school is part of schoolgen, this is sponsored by Genesis energy who helped us get our solar panels.
