Welcome back for term 3

Welcome back to all our Plateau Kiwis. It was great to be back at school and to hear all the exciting things you got up to during the holidays.
For this term we are going to be exploring the concept of making paper bricks for our fires at home. Plateau school is an enviro school so we will be recycling our old newspapers into bricks that we can burn in the fire.
This will also be part of our technology focus as we look to find the best method to make the bricks and then looking into the best way to distribute and market them.
Here are some photos of our work so far today.

Here we are ripping up the newspaper into small pieces so we can soak it in water. The paper will
need to soak for about 3 days. Nice to be sitting out in the sun today.

We have also made a title page in our big blues books so we can record our findings and work throughout of brick making.

We have filled our container and added water, now we need to wait for 3 days before we move onto the next step.

Keep watching our blog to see our progress.

Citizenship song

Here is our citizenship song. We have worked hard all term to learn this song. The tune is fast and the lyrics complicated with loads of big words. We think we have done a pretty good job! Here is our music video.

 Citizenship song

Chorus
There’s so much going on around me
Sometimes I think that it is all about me
Then I look around and see what’s in front of me
It’s you, and me, we help others in need

Verse
I am a citizen of my society
And I participate in my community
I do my part, I keep it clean
I make this world a better place for you and me
I love my neighbour, I treat them good
I show respect and dignity like I should
I love my family, I follow all the rules
I take responsibility for what I need to do

Chorus
There’s so much going on around me
Sometimes I think that it is all about me
Then I look around and see what’s in front of me
It’s you, and me, we help others in need

Repeat verse

Repeat chorus x2

Rap
I do all I can to make this world a better place
Show respect to my neighbour and to the whole human race
Citizenship is who I am, everything that I do
I take care of the environment, how about you?
Repeat rap
Repeat chorus x3

Kiwi Room takes inline hockey by storm!

Today we were lucky enough to have a go at inline hockey. Thomas and his team came to school to show us some skills, set us up in our gear and let us have a turn at skating. Here are some photos of us having a great time.

A display of Unity in Kiwi Room 6/7/13

We have been learning about Unity. It was Kiwi Rooms turn to present at Solo Assembly and Mrs Brattle thought it would be a good idea to make a movie about some of the ways in which we could show our unity. She even challenged us to do something we never thought we could do!
